Associate Professor Dr. Samet Yardımcı

Obesity and Metabolic Surgery, Gastroenterology Surgery, General Surgery Specialist

After completing his primary and secondary education in Antakya, Samet Yardımcı was accepted to Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1997 and started his medical education. In 2003, the year he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, he passed the medical specialization exam and started as a General Surgery assistant at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital.

Between 2008 and 2009, he attended training on cancer surgery and organ transplantation at MD Anderson cancer center and Memorial Herrman hospitals in Houston, USA. Following his success in this exam, he completed his Gastroenterology Surgery (digestive system surgery) training at Turkey Yüksek İhtisas Hospital between 2009-2012.

In 2012, he became Turkey’s youngest Gastroenterology Surgeon and was appointed to Marmara University Pendik Training and Research Hospital. Between 2012 and 2018, he gave many lectures to Marmara University Faculty of Medicine students and general surgery assistants, and took part in many training activities for patients and surgeons. He worked in the field of advanced laparoscopic surgery, Obesity and Metabolic surgery, and also undertook an active role in the establishment of the organ transplantation and Inflammatory bowel diseases surgery units. He was awarded the title of Associate Professor in the exam held in March 2017.

Dr.Yardımcı attended a revisional bariatric surgery course held in Belgium in 2017 which he completed successfully. Throughout his professional life, he has reached thousands of patients by working in centers where more than 2000 surgeries are performed annually. His work in 2012 received the “Best Young Researcher” award from the International Transplantation Congress. He has been invited as a speaker to various domestic and international congresses. He was awarded a certificate of appreciation for patient satisfaction by the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate. He gave patient instruction seminars on obesity surgery and metabolic surgery and received a certificate of appreciation for his work.

He contributed to the education of his colleagues by organizing courses in the field of obesity and metabolic surgery in 2015 and 2017. He is a member of the Turkish Surgery Association, Gastroenterology Surgery Association, Endoscopic Laparoscopic Surgery Association, Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery Association, Turkish Obesity Surgery Association, Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Association and International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO). Samet Yardımcı has a good command of English. His special interests include bariatric surgery and metabolic surgery, reflux surgery, inflammatory bowel disease surgery and tumor surgery. He has written chapters in medical books in his field, and has done many studies published in Turkey and abroad. He has been working at Medical Park Pendik hospital since March 2018. He is married and has a child.
